The flight over the ocean was the first time I traveled to a different continent. There was eight hour time difference and so much excitement build up in my body that I could not even think about sleeping. It was very scary to realize I was all alone in a bigger, very modern country. Everything seemed enormous. The huge streets and fast shiny cars that were passing by made me feel like I am in a futuristic movie. I have only seen high risers and hotel looking buildings- resembling a piece of art, only on television. I was so nervous and yet so excited to be in a completely different environment. Surrounded by palms and so many people from different backgrounds helped me adjust a little faster. I had little knowledge of English so that helped me find a place to live and a job. Not knowing the language as good as others was scary. I remember jumping every time the phone rang worrying that if I pick up people on the other side of the phone will not understand what I am saying, because of my accent. As I looked around and saw all these young adults around me, with different accents just like me trying to look for better future, gave me a sense of calmness. As time passed, I got accustomed to the lifestyle here. The credit system, which we do not have in Bulgaria, the expensive cars and oversized shopping stores. Having Christmas at the beach and seeing Santa in shorts on a surfing board are some charming things I find so different
