It’s Mid-August, our summer is coming to an end and the beginning of our middle school years are starting soon. I grew up with two sisters and two brothers; I never knew my father and my mom works as a full time nurse, my best friend Ashlyn and I have been friends since 3rd grade. I have always been different from other kids and because of that I was bullied most of my life. My 6th grade year begins today and I’m not a bit too excited for it. Ashlyn and I walked into the huge classroom full of students and sat down in the back of the room. The teacher walked in “Good morning everyone, can I have everyone to the front of the class so we can assign seats.” Ashlyn sighed “We probably won’t be next to each other.” I shrugged “First day …show more content…
I was chewing gum as the teacher was having us introduce ourselves, when she got to me I stood up “It’s Casey.” She asked nicely “Can you spit out your gum please?” I rolled my eyes “Whatever.” I got up and threw it in the trash, she continued “My name is Mrs. Monroe and let’s continue with Tomas. The boy next to me looked up “I’m Tomas, you just said my name.” Ashlyn looked back at me, smiled and looked at him. I laughed, he looked at me. The teacher started getting agitated “Looks like we got two smart alecks in the class.” I raised my hand “He’s got a point though; you did say his name to us.” Ashlyn shushed me, Mrs. Monroe sighed “It’s the first day of school and I suggest not getting suspended on it.” I smirked “So continue the lesson, we’ll learn each other names ourselves. We aren’t in elementary anymore.” Tomas said “She’s got a point though. Most of the people in here I wouldn’t care for.” I laughed “Right?” She grabbed her detention slips “Both of you detention during lunch.” I smiled “Mrs. We aren’t missing out on recess so who cares, we’d just be standing around outside.” Tomas yawned “Fuck that.” She pointed to the door “Both of you out of my class please.” I grabbed my backpack and walked out “Took you long enough.” Tomas followed behind me, she stopped “Stand outside the door and I will deal with you after class.” I rolled my eyes “Right. We easily can just …show more content…
I’m so tired of being the girl everyone makes fun of.” I started walking to my next class when I got grabbed “Hey Casey.” I turned around “Are you following me now.” He smirked “Of course not, I have math too.” I nodded my head and raised my eyebrows “Right. How did you know I have math?” He pointed at my binder “Right. Guess I didn’t really hide it anyways I’m not going.” He smiled “You may be the only I like in this school.” We ditched the rest of the school, we went to a nearby park and hung out. I sat on top of the slide “Where you from?” He kicked the mulch with his black skate shoes “California, you?” I smiled “Arizona.” He jumped up on the slide in front of me “So your friend. Why is she so serious?” I smirked “Ashlyn? She’s the good girl who gets perfect grades. Otherwise her mom would kill her.” He laughed “What about you? Would your mom kill you knowing your ditching with a guy?” I smiled “Of course she would. But that is why I emailed the principal my enrollment from with this phones

Walking into the warm, brick classroom, I was greeted once again by the single, depressingly orange wall. The Spanish teacher had tried to cover it with an excessively large calendar to no avail; the wall that was supposed to liven up the room was forever the antithesis of its purpose. Since the school year began, I stared at that wall, sitting between my best friend at the time and the only other freshman in the class. That day, however, the teacher had finally come up with a seating chart, putting my back to the wall and me just one seat down from him. I hadn’t noticed him before, with his nearly straight bangs covering his bushy eyebrows and crooked, peg-toothed smile.…
