0-100 Real Quick 3:44 a.m. This is the time that our journey began. I had been waiting for this day since my family went out for supper at the Hatchery the previous year, and my dad asked where we should go on vacation next. Now for my family, we’d never really gone on a huge vacation, so this was a big deal to me. It turned out that we decided on going to the Bahamas. Everything slowly came together as we finalized plans, and I was ecstatic. I constantly looked up pictures of the hotel and the ocean fantasizing when we would really be there in the flesh. Finally, February 5 rolled around, and we set out for the airport in Omaha. The last-and only other-time I had been on a plane was in 7th grade when I went to Washington D.C. …show more content…
A lot of chaos in the hotel lobby was easily subsided by the helpful doormen available to help. The pillars and artwork were definitely something to stare at. I would say that the pillars reminded me of the state capitol. They looked up into a cone with seashells delicately carved into the ceiling. Everywhere I looked, I saw palm trees towering over me. My impressions immediately were flip-flopped, and excitement radiated from my body because we were in the Bahamas. After receiving our hotel keys, we took the trek across all of the lobbies to our room. The hotels on the Atlantis resort were all connected, so it we had easy access to everything around us. From the different colored carpet, to the winding staircases and Versace dresses being showcased, my eyes couldn’t take in enough of what surrounded me. Up 6 floors, and down the hall, we opened the door to our room. Immediately, I ran out to the balcony. We had a view of the ocean, and wow was I impressed. I had never been to the ocean before, so this was an exciting moment for me. Just the sound of the waves crashing on the shore brought me a sense of satisfaction. I could not wait to go down to the ocean, and feel the sand squish beneath my toes and the waves crash on my

The ‘Iolani Palace is one of Hawaii’s most historical sites that I chose to visit and write my essay about. This is because I have never been to the ‘Iolani Palace before, whereas I’ve been to the Bishop Museum numerous times, I chose to take the opportunity to do something different. I found the antique plumbing interesting, and also the way the palace was built to keep the kitchen cool. I found it quite fun, and in the next few paragraphs, I will explain to you to you my royal experience.…

It was a tropical themed hotel. I liked all of the interesting signs and prints throughout the building. Although I did not enjoy the wax figure siting in a windowsill. I'm not completely sure why, but I am terrified of wax figures. I can't even be in the same room as one of them.…

As a child, my parents shaped me into their ideal image of a little girl. The formation of their ideals actually started long before I first opened my eyes in the hospital. My story began back in 1988, when my parents met while working at Walt Disney World as cultural exchange workers from Canada. Their romance is a fairy tale. They had their first date at the Magic Kingdom, they spent all their days off on a Florida beach, and they experienced the technical magic that Disney is so well-known for.…

I woke up on the cushioned beach chair, gazing across the seemingly endless magical, blue aura of the ocean. As far as I could see, glistening sand stretched across the water, as the magnificent, jagged rock structures that watched over the Pacific Ocean like birds over their prey. Just two hours outside of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, golf courses, resorts and beaches lined the entire peninsula. The luxurious resorts boasted private beaches and exclusive accommodations along the picturesque coastline of Peninsula Papagayo. Any accommodations you could possibly imagine would be provided immediately by the professionally trained wait staff.…

Slowly unlocking the door, he casually unloaded the things we might need during our stay. We had to walk the supplies up to the top of the tower, but once there, I understood why he picked this place as a hide out. The view was outstanding. While at first glance, David Foster Wallace’s “Shipping Out” describes the miserable tale of the author on a cruise ship for a week, however, it is actually a commentary on the underlying insidious nature of cruise ships and vacation services. During this period, the author is treated to a multitude of luxuries, including thorough cleaning services, high-class dining, and constant recreational activities provided by the cruise. However, the author grows increasingly unsettled as he realizes the extent the ship’s crew is willing to do in order to gain the validation and the satisfaction of their customers. Jennifer Volland’s essay “Stay: The Archetypical Space of the Hotel” is another work which describes the nature of similar vacation spots,…

Near our hotel was a strangely quiet, white, modernistic tourist village, where Grandaddy and I walked a few times and looked out over Carthage at sunset. The clustered design and emptiness of the village was in weird contrast to our lavish hotel, which was full of Tunisian art, mosaics, marble, and people. Sometimes we heard the Muslim call to prayer in Carthage below our hilltop hotel; these calls were melodic and very pleasant. We heard these calls in other parts of Tunisia, including early in the morning in an oasis town on the northern edge of the Sahara Desert.…
