Personal Narrative: The Day I Shot My First Turkey

Improved Essays
One day that I will always remember is the day that I shot my first turkey. I went hunting with my dad in a field that we usually hunt turkeys for close to Morning Sun. We went there all of that season and the other three seasons before that. There are four seasons that you can go in the spring. There is also a youth season, you can go that season if you are under 16 years old. I shot my first turkey in 2014 when I was in eighth grade.

When we were done it was about 7:15 and we started to walk back to the truck. I had to carry my gun and the turkey I shot. I was getting tired of carrying it even though it wasn’t that heavy. When we got back to the truck we put it in the back and put the tag on it. We got into the truck and drove home. When we got home my mom came outside and asked if we got anything. We tried to trick her and say no but we couldn’t because we were both still happy that I shot one. It was about 7:30 and I had to go to school. We waited until after school to clean it. When we did we cut the beard off and it was really small. It was about three inches. We got the meat out and we ate it when my family came over for my

I loaded a shell, took my safety off and mounted the gun and was ready to shoot. I yelled “pull” and out came a bright orange clay bird what seemed to be traveling faster than the speed of light. I pointed the shotgun at the clay bird and pulled the trigger and the bird exploded. He told me to shoot more so I put 4 shells in the tube and put one in the chamber then yelled pull. I broke 5 straight, which is pretty good for a first timer.…

Sadly, we couldn’t get a shot because it was still way too dark but it definitely got my adrenaline going. That was the exact moment I knew I was going to love hunting. When we finally got to the stand, I crawled up the ladder and sat down on the seat that my dad had provided for me, anxiously waiting for my time to prove that I really could be a hunter. I set my .270 in the corner and sat there patiently waiting for the sun to rise. Watching the sun rise over the horizon was breathtaking.…

My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…
