Polished Brief Have you ever wanted something so bad that you thought it was necessary for your life to go on, for me that something was a pet dog. At the age of seven I was begging my parents to get me a puppy for about a year, the conversations usually sounded like this “ Hey mom and dad I was wondering if I could get a puppy this year for my birthday?” and they would reply “ I don’t know son a dog is a huge responsibility, I don’t know if you are ready for this yet.” then I would storm off all angry, because I did not get the answer I was looking or hoping for.…
My First Shot The air was empty but the pond was full. We sneak through the trees to get to the pond. We get there to realize that the gamble we took didn't pay off. Since we got there about thirty minutes before shoot time we waited. That was the slowest 30 minutes ever.…
When I was growing up and my brother attended high school, I always enjoyed going to Friday night football games and watching the best part of the game: the halftime show. While I sat in the stands, my brother would be marching sets, creating intricate formations and blasting his trumpet at fortissimo. I dreamed to be a part of the sets of formations and play difficult music at rapid tempos. Once I entered middle school, I immediately signed up for band and assigned to play the oboe, a woodwind instrument in the double reed family and, arguably, one of the most difficult instruments to master. I didn’t know then, but I later found out that this activity would push me out of my comfort zone and learn not only challenging sonatas and melodies, but also life skills I would need to achieve my goals.…
Serena just moved to New Orleans for college. It wasn't her dream school, her dream school was in California. When she got a rejection letter from her dream school, she knew she had to go to her dad’s dream school for her, which was in New Orleans. When Serena got there, she wanted to join a sorority. She joined the Kappa Kappa Tau House, and loved it there.…
Everyone remembers the day it came. I was just doing normal kid stuff when I heard a loud bang. I didn’t think much of it because there was occasionally loud noises in the area so I went on with my day as if nothing had happen. Later that night I woke up to an uneasy feeling that something bad had happen but I just tried to go back to bed.…
My vison for myself since I was five years old has been to be someone who helps people through healthcare and education. Through time, my vision has developed into a sound statement that I am currently working day by day on reaching it. My personal vision is to be an advocate in women’s health care in a professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate way. This will be done through education, self enhancement, and patient empowerment. Helping patients be an active part in their care is the most gratifying part of my job.…
Though I’m still developing my legacy, I like to think that most people who know me, regardless of how well, consider me a person that can put a smile on nearly any face. From my time in high school as photo studio assistant getting babies to giggle on camera to my work as a personal trainer cracking jokes to help clients through the worst parts of their workouts; I learned that a little laughter can improve any situation. While this is a fairly simple impact to have on people, I do believe that it’s a powerful one. My own experiences with bereavement, chronic ill health and periods of poor mental health have shown me the value of a person that puts in the effort and time to get a smile out of someone. Though happiness is a pretty fleeting…
“Deeper Into my Life” Individuals are unique in their own ways and one of mine happens to be my name, Darrnyejah Bolds. Everywhere I go people have a hard time pronouncing it. Many people have given up and just refer to me as “Ms. Bolds,” but also I have two nicknames “Nye”, and “Nyejah,” which is mostly used by family and friends. Over the years, I have adjusted to my nicknames and became very comfortable with them. I entered this world on February 27, 1997 with the zodiac sign of Pisces.…
Personal Memoir, Near the end of my sophomore year me and my three friends wanted to go on an adventure and explore the school. And we did, It was near the end of track season me and my friend caleb where in the locker room our friend brian walks in and says he got and A key( one key opens every door in the school) So i said let's go and check out the hidden class room above the gym rafters. And us being curious boys didn't disagree and didn't think about the consequences of our actions. Lets wait for nick, I said, once nick got to the locker room we all went into the gym and opened up the door that leads to the ladder to get up to the rafters.…
I was heartbroken, for the first time in my life. We were walking back to our houses from our neighborhood Christmas party. It was the 3 of us; Emily, Margs, and me. We have been friends forever because we all lived close together; but in school we all were in different friend groups. In school it was as if we didn’t even know each other.…
It couldn’t have been past 10 a.m. when the alarm went off. We all knew what it meant- we were firefighters, it’s what we do. The fire chief told us that an apartment complex in downtown Boston had gone ablaze, and that it was really bad. We quickly got into our uniforms and hopped on as the fire truck left the station. We were a few miles away before I saw the smoke, a dark giant against the bright blue sky.…
I sat down on the wilted grass. I remembered from years past long before I forfeited my life to crime. Back then I still had a few transgressions on my record, but it wasn't like my record now. Three counts of armed robbery, more robbery charges, and more charges of murder than any man should have on his conscience. My conscience constantly reminded me that it's not normal.…
