Everyone predicted that robots would exist. But no one would have guessed humans would be the mindless, mechanical objects being controlled. Everyone’s lives had become one lengthy procedure. The same technology that gave them control made them feel completely powerless. One operation changed the way humans lived and interacted. One person in particular, Destin Vanderbelt, would be greatly affected. This operation made him more than he could have ever imagined. The change was fast. He can hardly remember his life before. There is only one moment that has remained drilled into his memory. It was the day his life spiraled out of control. It was the day the exam was put in place. In this case, it was both. Destin and his family drove to their designated facilities. Everyone was frantic and severely cautious. The men who escorted them into the room remained tenacious and discreet. An announcement projected from the speakers above them. The intercom voice directed everyone to the main room. Thousands of bleachers filled up around them. The staggering seats swallowed the room. Everyone was motionless. You would have thought the air was stagnant. A man and a woman walked side by side towards the middle of the arena. They stood there, examining the area around them. An eager smile gently spread across the women’s face as she exclaimed, “Welcome!” The man’s voice held a mischievous tone as he spoke “, I am sure you are all wondering why you are standing before us today.” Everyone could tell that the man was being rhetorical. He was taunting them. The room fell silent once again as the male speaker held a long pause. “Let me introduce myself. Carver Morris is my name, but you can call me …show more content…
“Together we make up the career aptitude test. For the past three years, we have created a series of exams… The women continued to finish his discussion. “These tests will be admitted to everyone over the age of 18 to determine your role in society. After all, a community is only as useful as its citizens.” Everyone looked towards the end of their aisle. The same men who escorted them to the arena were standing at the end. They stared right through them as if they were being controlled. The sirens went off once again and in one swift moment, the guards extorted everyone out of their seats. Destin struggled against the guards restraints, but the guard feinted left and injected an unknown sermon into the neck of Destin. A fluorescent flooded through the slight openings of Destin’s eyes. He noticed a cursory, lofty figure above him. The man spoke in a subtle tone. Destin, unable to make out his words, realized the resonance of the man’s voice. It was Dr. Carver. “Don’t be fearful, my son. I will explain everything.” Dr. Caver paused, he was anticipating a response. Carver continued, “This is Operation M-D. In school, you have completed several aptitude tests. These exams have led to this day. The exams have placed each of you in a career field based off your exam
