Everyone people watches. Even if you don’t mean to we all do it. There is a bunch of weird people in the world and its hard to miss them. One thing I’ve noticed since I got here in Marshall Texas is that there is always people in the streets. I’m not only talking about homeless people, just normal people who just stand along the road and outside of stores and on a front porch of some old house. I never really saw any of that from where I come from. Where I come from there’s not many people in the streets. During the day you will see kids playing out in their front yards but come nighttime everyone’s gone. Probably because of a curfew. The other day I was driving home, coming back at about 2:30. Right as I got into Marshall I saw a man with a shopping cart and shorts and no t-shirt on. At first I thought he was homeless but the closer I looked at him I realized he wasn’t. He looked at me as if I was the weird one. Like me being out was weird. It made me think as I passed him. What was so weird about me that made him look at me the way he did. I feel as though he gave me the same look I gave him as I passed by him. So who was the weird one? Who was the “normal” one? “Having Been in high school I used to hear “she’s weird” or “that’s weird.” I always like to ask why. What makes something or someone weird or normal? Something is weird when it breaks societal norms. For example, if someone puts his hand over his mouth while talking , you would probably consider that trait as weird but not that person. But why? Because people don’t normally put their hands over their mouths while talking.
A good way to illustrate this point is to look at different cultures. What’s weird in one, may be the norm in the other or vice versa. For instance, slurping your noodles or soup would be considered weird in the United States, but not slurping could be weird or offensive in some Asian countries.”
