Personal Narrative: Change In My Life

Superior Essays
Change is seen differently by different people. Some accept it while others deny it, depending on their values and mentality. This is seen in many places in today’s world, like political models, society’s values, and debates on environment based on science. Similar to almost everyone, life presented me with a chance of change when I was fairly young, end of 4th grade to be exact. I was asked by my parents to switch schools from a local medium to international medium of studies in India. At the time my vision didn’t include much other than hanging out with my three best friends. All I cared about was not having to make new friends when I already had a known corner in an unknown world. What really scared me though was my tutors telling me that …show more content…
I tried my all to not sit in that van but as soon as I was in, I pretended to be one of the most joyous person around. I tried to crack some jokes including my ID and some nerdy fact about van and the petrol consumption which back fired, but it was still a great start. It was hard making any friends in the van since everybody seemed to have their own talking buddies. I was naturally secluded from the known part of the circle. In school though I had a chance of introducing myself and getting to know others. Schools in India have very different organization of students than in America. Everyone studies same subjects at different times and students are set into sections at random. Each section was about 35 to 50 students large. There is a high chance that few students don’t get any of their friends they know well. When it came to introducing myself, I froze up and all I could say was “I came from Divine Buds and I have one sibling”. That didn’t give a great introduction of myself but I couldn’t do anything about it. I tried to be hysterical about finding a common phoneme in other student’s name and that’s how I formed my first …show more content…
I wasn’t really excited about any of these courses and so I just looked forward to P.E and recess. I didn’t really have anyone to hang out with so I explored the campus of my new school. My classmates made it pretty well that they had their own group and while some weren’t completely closed off, they weren’t inviting either. I found a great place which had perfect shade from trees and monkey bar by it. This was my spot to eat lunch. I was pretty excited to find it and enjoy delicious food my mom packed for me. When we returned from recess it was time for studying environment. It felt easy because I had already learned the concepts everyone was learning in my new school. I answered few questions from general knowledge and from studying in Divine Buds. I felt important for once when I was the only one able to answer few questions. However, what I didn’t notice was that there are students who despised “new kid” trying to get familiar with teachers. This is where one group of students sitting at the back end of class tried to poach me on any mistake I could make. I eventually did say something stupid in my Bible study class since it was very new subject. The teacher didn’t seem to mind, but this group of students immediately took the opportunity to insult me and my previous school by saying “Is this the nonsense they taught you in your dumb school?” I didn’t have anything to reject that

Growth is a product of change, and change is inevitable regardless if it is positive or negative, which can be intimidating. During my adolescence, a fear resided in me because of my life’s adversities. I was raised in a low-income single mother household with an absent father due to incarceration. Despite feeling like a statistic, prospects began to arise when I joined the Midnight Golf Program(MGP). With the mentor-ship of MGP, I gained both courage and confidence in myself.…

Period of Change Through the time that I had in my life, from being a little kid who viewed life as a recurring cycle of events that is going to school five days a week and having fun during the weekend and meet friends, to that young adult I am today who has to take responsibilities and make choices and manage my own time and do my own work by myself while my siblings are away from me as I was the only kid in the house. Through the period of time which was like two or three years ago till now, I?ve had people and things that grew with me. Things that looked not quiet reasonable to me in the past became much clearer right now such as friendship, in the past I thought friendship was strong when I?ve known the person for a long time, now I realized that it?s not like that, it?s the actions and the people who are always behind your back that makes a strong friendship.…

Change The cold metal on my bare feet shot a surge of chill through my body. I once again stepped onto that scale, and once again hoped for different results. Glancing down in anticipation as the digital numbers rose, I begged them to stop, and they did; 194, 196, 197, and finally settled upon 198. I did it, I finally dipped below two-hundred pounds for the first time in what felt like forever.…

Being asked, to sum up, what little I’ve known of life into a question has proven to be much of a task but led to the pressing question of how racial profiling and bullying by my fellow classmates affected the social decisions I’ve made throughout my life. The story all begins with the decision to leave the warm, sunny, culture enriched island of Trinidad being made by my parents in early 2009. By June of the same year, I was in New York City enrolling in elementary school for the coming school year. I started the fourth grade in a new school, with new people, and a new culture. During my first month of school, I excelled and the class became boring for me.…

Intro It was just a few months ago where my perspective of everything changed for the better. I was a normal caterpillar just like all the rest. We followed the same routine everyday, Wake up, get ready, eat, walk around, and eat again, Oh, and after a whole day full of “fun and adventure” we would go to sleep. Every day was like this, we all ate the same food, we had houses that looked the same way, and we all followed the same rule that was given to up by our head butterfly, meyer; NEVER EVER encounter a human.…

Lately I’ve been reflecting a lot over things that have happened over the past year or two, and how much I’ve changed since then. I guess the biggest difference that I can feel is how much happier I now am. For my entire freshman year at Trinity, my life basically followed a downward spiral. I was thrust into a completely new environment: new school, new swim team. And I knew nobody and nothing.…
