Brian (Woog) responded in his police cruiser; as he stood around watching crews extinguish the blaze a crewmember shouted out for him to get on top of Wagon 7 and operate the deck gun. Woog took attention to what seemed to be like the cause of the fire, the RV. Using the deck gun he doused the RV with water as other crewmembers made an interior attack on the family’s home. All of a sudden we all heard what sounded like a gunshot, it was hard to tell what it was over all the radio traffic commotion and the roar of the fire. Soon everyone came aware of what the noise was; it was the RV’s propane tank exploding. When the explosion occurred it blew off the compartment door along with the compressed cylinder shock which pierced Brian’s right arm near his bicep. His blood cover arm was broken in two places with all his nerves severed; it almost looked like someone put a .45 to his arm and shot a couple times. This is when I first realized that personal safety is always the most important thing to keep in mind when on a call. Who knows what would of happened if it hit him anywhere else. No one knew that that shock was going to fly off that door; no one knew that it was going to injure someone. You always wonder what if.
