“And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22). As my Confirmation date comes closer, I am not only preparing myself to take in the Holy Spirit, but I am also getting ready to take on the responsibilities of being a full grown Catholic. Although I am nervous, I am excited to find out what God’s plan is for me in the future. My sponsor Catie Hartley has helped me strengthen my bonds with God and the Church throughout the past years. She has set positive examples in her life and our relationship continues to grow every

The site that I visited was Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC. I went to a sermon, with some friends, that took place on a Sunday night. When we arrived at the church, we stayed together and observed the site. The members of this church all seemed to be within their twenties and thirties; there were a few younger children and a few older women and men, but not many. Most of these people seemed to be from Christian ethnic backgrounds or just unaffiliated with any ethnicity.…

Sally Burt is the kindest woman you could ever meet. Many take her kindness for weakness, because she tends to be very passive, but don’t let her fool you, because she does have a feisty side. She is fifty-six years of age, but has the vitality of a twenty-six year old. She has dark brown eyes that sparkle every time she speaks; her light brown skin glows ever so radiantly as the sun hits her; she has thick, brown, short hair that caresses her shoulders. Her loving smile can brighten up anyone’s day; she stands tall at 5’6, and walks proudly, while loving her voluptuous curves.…

I really appreciate Cathy Small’s appreciation and respect for the Tongan people and culture. Our family like so many immigrants have a great story and journey to America. My relationship with Cathy I would say is professional in nature. As an Anthropologist she tries to remain objective. Her approach to her study takes Humanistic approach to anthropology, as Ivan Brady suggests, “must be creative, eager to search everywhere and to account for the greatest array of happenings, and willing to reach out to alternate narrative forms.…

Finding someone to admire is a difficult task in itself. The title of role model can be bestowed to anyone ranging from a celebrity or to the local mail carrier. Whoever it is, they are someone you are proud to look up to no matter what, and can always depend on. Fortunately, I have a person who I partisan and proudly call my role model. This person goes by the name Rachel Meyers, she has been my role model for two years and she is a marvelous friend of mine.…

Today’s goal was to introduce me to the site, the people that work in my department, the resources available to workers, and current projects. My volunteer supervisor, Geraldine Baptist, showed me around the hospital, specifically where I would normally sign in and sign out, the cafeteria, and the Occupational/Physical therapy outpatient department. Upon arrival at the OT/PT department, Ms. Baptist introduced me to the front desk secretary, Mauracell, a sweet, openhearted young lady. Mauracell warm welcoming made me extremely comfortable, and all anxiety was put to ease. Mauracell showed me around the office and work center, then introduced me to each person present and gave me a description of what types of things they work on.…

During the eighteen years I have lived my experiences have been fairly sheltered. I have never traveled out of the country, eaten exotic foods, or gone skydiving; consequently, I haven’t met many people of special interest. Not to say the people I have met are not interesting, on the contrary, most of the people I have come to know all have their own unique stories and experiences; however, I never did meet anyone quite like Miss May. To this day I can’t pinpoint what exactly it was about her that intrigued me so much, maybe it was her rich brown hair and almond-shaped eyes, or how she pronounced candy more like “kehn-dee”, or it definitely could have been the way her eyes lit up when she smiled—still she will always remain a mystery to me.…

I imagine myself walking through Barnard’s black iron gates, leaving behind the fast pace and overwhelming excitement of the city I have always loved, and entering a place where faculty and students make up one community. I am enthralled by the prospect of learning beside other passionate women in an environment that encourages intellectual-curiosity. With its Nine Ways of Knowing, Barnard is dedicated to equipping young women with the confidence and skills that aided the success of Martha Stewart and Zora Neale Hurston. The ubiquity of great women and the outstanding academics is both empowering and awe-inspiring. A Barnard woman is strong, independent, driven, passionate and, as Professor Shu-Wen Wang said, “defines her life for herself.”…

As a team member of Student Center Activities Board (SCAB) that works for Student Life Programs here at Cedarville, I will strive to physically display Christ’s love and grace to both unbelievers and believers through my conversations with them. After graduating from church school and receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, I decided to volunteer as a teacher’s assistant at my church school to help the older generation teach the youth about the Catholic faith. This volunteer experience helps me realized that my purpose in the Catholic Church was to help the people in my community, to give them positive influence allowing me to gain personal growth and reach my potential of a selfless person learning to take the role as a leader. That realization that I could bring great knowledge to the people was the beginning of my awakening. This journey started my junior year when I became a volunteer at my church as a teacher’s assistant and I was assigned to help assist a teacher in a class…

The first was the two-week trip to Disneyland and other places. On that trip I was repeatedly sexually abused by the father of the family (I was seven and told no one about this until I was in my teens). That happened 43 years ago and even as I sit here trying to remember I cannot access how I felt about being cared for by someone like that. I remember as a young child and it was Christmas when I went down to Joyce Silva’s house.…

The people that I chose to interview were Todd Fetters, Paul Fetters, Jacob Johnson, Nick Miller and Joni Schmalzried. The reason why I chose these people is because they are people that I respect who have had roles of leadership in various settings in ministry. Some have worked as youth pastors, others have taught ministry classes, and others have pastored at churches. But there is one person that I interviewed who is not a leader in Christian ministry but the way that they have impacted my life lead me into ministry. I found that it was hard for my interviewees to define leadership and rather they wanted to give characteristics or qualities of leaders, which I think is just as beneficial.…
