Personal Narrative: Caguas, Puerto Rico

I grew up Caguas, Puerto Rico and in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. My house in Toa Alta shaped me to be more social since I had friends there that we used to go out and play together. In Caguas, which was my grandmothers house, I didn’t went out and play. My sister and I always stayed inside to play or watch TV. My earliest memory I can recall been on the phone with my parents at my grandmother’s house and then going to my room in my grandmother’s house and crying because I missed my parents and then falling asleep. Both of my parents were deployed at the same time for a whole year. I used to play with Barbie and Bratz dolls, ride my bicycle, played hide and seek. With the Barbie’s and Bratz I used to make up stories to play with them. When riding my bicycle we used to have competitions to see who could go faster. Yes, I did go to my parent’s work place. When I was young both of my parents were in the Army. My dad’s role was a battalion commander and my mom’s role was a logistic officer. In my hometown my parents role was just to pay the house, light and water bill and to be parents to their two daughters. The main reason I love my family so much is because we were always together. We all had dinner at my grandmothers house and then we all went home, we did that everyday. My grandmother picked my sister and I from school and my cousin from day care, when we got to her house we did our homework with our parents or with my grandmother. Then we had dinner as a family all of us, which was my mom, dad, aunt, uncle, cousin, godmother, godfather and my grandmother. Until my grandmother had stroke and we stopped meeting at her house cause she needed extra care. She was first moved from house to house (from each daughter), but it was too much work for them so she was moved to nursing
