I was born at the hospital on McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington in 1999. I do not remember much from my first few years of being alive, but my parents have always talked about how fascinated I was with my dad’s uniform. When I was five, my father got orders to move to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. We packed up all of our belongings, and left in 2004. The first thought my sister and I had when we got to our new house was to make sure our backyard was sufficient for us to play in. Moving here felt like the end of the world. I was going to lose the only close friends I have ever had, the familiarity of the base I had lived on, and the sense of community we had with our neighbors. Because my father could not find an ideal paying job, he moved to Rhode Island, New York for a year to keep our family afloat while my mom finished school. It took a few months to adjust, but after defeating the challenge of meeting new people, I came to the conclusion that it was not so terrible after all. Since we have lived here, many exceptional things have happened to us. My mom finished her master’s degree in nursing, my dad have found a successful job at the airport as a technical engineer, and my sister has graduated college with an associate’s degree in graphic design. I found the most important people in my life in this city, and I cannot wait to begin my future
