Personal Narrative: Becoming Americanized In Society

Improved Essays
My expectations before participating in this activity was for it to not be as authentic as it was. I did not realize that there was a place downtown that had such real and good food and wondered why I haven’t heard of this place before. Also, I was surprised with the poverty I saw around the area. I have always grown up in areas that have a decent amount of money and have never been to a spanish speaking country or area before. This experience really opened my eyes to the fact that there are places out there that still have authenticity and still try to resist becoming “Americanized” in society.

They described it in a way that could be taken as an experience of Mexico that will bring back nostalgia and the true Mexican culture. I have never heard of a resturant posting a description on the experience the customer will have once they enter their restaurant. It makes it all more authentic and real. When I looked at Milissa Silva-Diaz blog I found it interesting that she noted in one of her blogs from about a year ago, that “...booming restaurant business throughout the twin cities, but no food service employees. It was extremely frustrating to have a growing business and to be short staffed”. For some reason I have never thought about that. Not a whole lot of people want to work a food service job all of their life so I can see where that may be challenging to staff her business. However, it seemed to me, and as Milissa Silva said in her blog, that there were many loyal customers. It seemed like a lot of people recognized each other, like the cash register lady knew the customer by name, giving it that home away from home feeling for immigrants. It was really nice to see that and I feel like people who grow up in really big cities don’t get the opportunity to really get to know the people in our

My husband, our four children, and I visited the El Rodeo in Mooresville, Indiana on April 15, 2017. We arrived around one in the afternoon and were surprised to find that the customers were few and far between. We were seated immediately, and our server, Juan, was at our table within seconds. He brought with him three baskets of chips and three bowls of salsa. Our food arrived at our table about ten minutes after we ordered.…

Unlike many teenagers I didn’t, have a transition period from childhood to teenage years to adulthood, like so many others here in America might have. My life went from a carefree child to being a mature and responsible adult within a matter of months, and here is how it all started. The fact or the matter is that I was born in a refugee camp in Nepal and life wasn’t easy with death and disease looming everywhere. I roamed the streets as carefree as young kid could. Life was normal as I went to school every day, my dad worked countless hours, and my mother stayed home like so many other women in the community.…

aco Madre is a Mexican restaurant that recently opened so I decided to check it out with my friends. The first thing that I noticed from the outside was the location because it was next to Papa Johns and a wings restaurant, when seemed like a negative area to promote a business since there is competition. The location made me want to dock some points the internal made up for it. As I walked in the restaurant, I saw that the walls had the same design as the menu. I noticed that the patterns of flowers on the wall were very colorful, which helped brighten the room and adds a sense of dimension and comfort.…

Observer Taco Diner during lunch hour most of the patrons were business people and a few casual, indicating the restaurant is for everyone. I would consider the food to be traditional Mexican food with a few items being tex-mex. The prices were reasonable ranging from $4-$20. Considering the place has windowed walls, it was fully lighted. The inside of the restaurant was full, which many conversations and the music to equal it caused it to be loud.…

The first place I visited is in downtown Geneva, a restaurant called Sergio’s Cantina. The elements of folk culture evident is the food and the atmosphere. The main ingredients in the dishes served are corn, chiles, and beans, which are also the heart of most Mexican dishes. Tortillas, or “thin, round, pancakes,” are also served, as they are the most important part of the meal. Also, the restaurant was painted in bright colors and had tequila, a very popular drink in Mexico, advertised.…

Moreover, the physical evidence had an important impact while having dinner with my friends. The décor is all Mexican inspired. During this particular encounter, we were located in a big table and comfortable and rustic benches right by a window that were just on point with the Mexican décor. The restaurant did an excellent job overall at keeping me satisfy with good music as well. The music’s volume was moderate and the tables were separated enough so other customers’ conversations could not distract us.…

People usually go to a restaurant not only for the convenience; the most important element is that the restaurant has delicious food, which they cannot make it at home; also other restaurant cannot make that taste. I mean it should be has some more special than other restaurant, such as, the service very well or the special environment as so on. For me, the most elements adjust a restaurant it should be they pick up the fresh ingredients used in the food. That is the crucial for customers; they don’t want to send money payment for a bad or worse food.…
