I’ve decided to research the topic of how upcoming parents fear they might not have the fund to help put their children through college. This is an ongoing worry for most parents, especially those who didn’t receive a college education themselves. But the question that arises the most of what I’ve experienced is “what will the college tuition be when my child does look into going to college?” or “Will I even be able to send my son or daughter to college when it’s time”. As an uncle of four I also fear that my nieces and nephews won’t be able to get into a good college without the big fear of whether or not they will be able to afford it.…

Although moving has brought me some misfortune, and many people would say that living overseas qualifies as adversity, I never felt it was such.…

Technology has developed so much over the years that we have relied on it so much. Technology is used in pretty much everything we use nowadays. Living in a neighborhood was the greatest advantage, but having kids the same age as I was even better. There was never a time we weren't outside: rain, shine, snow, miserably cold, or even scorchingly hot. There was 4 of us: 3 girls and 1 guy, all around the same age.…

The past two weeks I have worked at northshore maternity and national womens community midwives. During my week at northshore it was incredibly busy and understaffed. I also remember thinking at times, where has the midwifery gone? We were so busy rushing around trying to provide safe and quality care to the women, but that fact is I feel we were too busy, with too larger case loads to provide true midwifery care. I cared for many day 1-2 sections, women with large blood losses requiring blood transfusions, a secondary PP and there was a woman with confirmed H1N1 on the ward who was unstable – but HDU wouldn’t allow her to be transferred around, and many other complex situations that really challenged my competence, knowledge and practice reasoning.…

For a while, I wasn’t able to see. I spent portions of my life feeling extremely tired and fatigued. In the back of my mind, I had assumed that someone would make the effort to help me, but no one ever did. Was it due to the fact that no one cared or was there a biological process in the human brain that causes people to act this way? Was it due to a person’s natural biology or was it the environment?…

As a young girl, my neighborhood friend and I would stargaze consistently throughout the summer. We would lay on her trampoline, look at the stars, and have detailed conversations about space. While we were lying down in the palpable darkness, we would identify as many constellations as possible. Although, the main night that stands out to me, was when her father brought his telescope outside to give us a close viewing of Jupiter. That moment still affects me today since I have continued to stargaze in my yard or when I’m in the vast cornfield around my neighborhood.…

“Spaghetti and hydrogen, what do they have in common?” I always remembered the question my physics teacher raised in first physics class in eighth grade. “From the leaves on the trees to the school bus that drives you here”, he continued, “for every matter in the world, there exist certain underlying rules that shape it into what it is, determine how it functions, and thus make it predictable and understandable.” Identifying his conclusion shapes me into a discerning observer. Ever since, I was spurred by an irresistible desire to find out the “underlying rules” that dominate the kaleidoscopic world.…

I don’t remember it that well, but my parents divorced when I was around three years old. I vaguely remember my father getting on a plane at the airport to go back to Guam and my mom, brother, and I waving good-bye. I have heard stories about why they split, saying that it had nothing to do with my brother or I, just differences between the two. As I grew older, I would still get presents in the mail on my birthday, Christmas, and even Halloween. He would send mangos from Guam, pictures of him fishing and even working (as a firefighter).…
