Just like any other foreigners that migrate to the United States, I had a language barrier as well as a cultural barrier that I had to get through. Everything seemed so different in a way that needless to say I was lost at first. Although with the use of my improved social skills, courage to take on learning a completely new language, and some supporting friends made it possible for me to get through these obstacles in my journey to a new life.
One of the hardest things to do was finding the courage inside me to take on a completely new language. As a 13 year old, I had to go the library and check out toddler books so I could practice reading English. I would send my mom to check out the books for me. For a long time I was very embarrassed.

Eventually, with the support of my family, I gained the courage to go and do things myself no matter how embarrassed I felt. After couple of months of arriving to US, in eighth grade, I joined the football team as well as theater. When I began to understand others’ conversations, I realized …show more content…
I talked to the teacher and joined the club right away. This was a whole another challenge for me because I did not know any technical terms or made anything remotely close to a robot. I started as a marketing member but then I built up the courage once again to take on a challenge. I would shadow more experienced build members in order to learn their way and use it when it was my turn to make things happen. In our first season we won the rookie MVP award as well as Highest Rookie Seed in Louisiana. In the Lone Star competition we made it to the quarter finals with our alliance. Our MVP award took us to the St. Louis F.I.R.S.T. Robotics World Championship. We came 12th out of 65 in The Carson Division and right now we are ranked 96th out of 6000 plus teams in the world. This year I’m one of the build leaders as well as the overall head of the Logistics of the whole club. Without my courage and ambition to keep going I wouldn’t be able to be a part of such a life changing
