Another effective tool that Kayla provided was a sexuality spectrum chart. This chart gave Ken the opportunity to place his sexuality on a point on the chart that provided more options than solely gay or straight. Kayla presented this exercise and the outcome provided a moment of clarity for Ken and took a heavy burden off of him. Ken felt that he understood himself more when he realized that he is bisexual and his attraction to men is a normal part of his life. The client is Feng. Feng is a 22 year old Chinese American male. Feng has recently graduated college and has started a job as a bioengineer. Feng likes his job and enjoys partying on the weekends. Feng’s family is traditional Chinese. They believe that as the first born male, Feng has to have a good education and attain a high paying job and have a successful career as the provider for his household. Feng’s family looks down on homosexuality. Feng is gay. He hides this from his family but is open with his friends. Feng lives far enough from his family that he can hide his sexuality and acts differently when he is around his parents. Feng sees himself as a young man who wants to have fun. He enjoys sleeping with men he meets while out partying and sees nothing wrong with his lifestyle. He knows that his parents will disapprove of this an disown him if they find out. Feng feels that this is causing him trouble internally and came to see a counselor because he might be depressed and his friends thought he might have contracted
