When I wrote this essay I was in my new home, my door room. I often refer to my dorm as my house, which my friends despise but I do it anyways. I always say “Want to come over to my house?”. Writing this essay in my new house allowed me to reflect back to my old house in Rotterdam. The physical setting that I was in made me feel extremely nostalgic for my old room at home that I shared with my little sister. The setting I was in definitely affected my writing and the mood I was in. Talking and writing about home makes me yearn for that special place. Being away at college is one of the hardest things for me. My astrological sign is cancer, one of our traits is having a deep love for home and our family, this describes me perfectly. When it came to writing about my town and its history and unique things about it caused me to especially miss our water (voted best in New York state) and our amazing italian food. …show more content…
I never thought I would actually miss Rotterdam when I went away to college. Looking back all the way to the beginning of the semester I realize how much I have grown up. This assignment was written after the fall break, which was my first time being home with all my friends since we left for college. The timing of this paper really affected my writing. When I was at home I believe I slept better in my own bed for those 4 days then I had since I arrived at college. Being home with my friends helped me realize it’s not the location you’re in but rather the people you’re surrounded with. Reflecting on my choice of coming to Utica further instills this thought. Several people are transferring because they don’t like it here, I love it here. I’ve made so many amazing friends that I couldn’t imagine my life without. The people who constantly complain about hating their town are the worst. This assignment made me realize how important it is to surround yourself with positive

Throughout my life I have lived in three cultural distinct regions Lima Peru, White Plains New York and Baltimore Maryland. For the first two years of my life I lived in Lima, Peru and even though I never culturally adapted myself into the culture I would often visit for months and immerse myself into the culture. I can say with confidence that if I grew up in that culture I would not my be the same person I am today because of the fact that they are a collectivistic country and that would change my outlook on myself and the community around me. To live in a brand new place and feel at home is difficult, but to do it alone is much more difficult. I wander the streets constantly trying to find something or someone that can ground me to this place that I am now living in. Walking around these cobble stone streets. I constantly look around for something that reminds me of home. I try to align something from Florence like the bittersweet smell of coffee, the egg glazed pastries and the warm smell of fresh bread to my place at home.…

In the past few decades, international students’ enrollments in the United States have increased greatly in higher education institutions (Gómez, Urzúa, and Glass, 2014). According to the literature, many international students who attend higher education institutions in the United States find the campus environment to be very stressful, demanding and challenging (Yakunina, Weigold, Weigold, Herecegovc, and Elsayed, 2013). As a result, many international students end up dropping out from their institutions due to lack of help from navigating the foreign education system, lack of motivation and complications with understanding where to seek help from other individuals (Yakunina et al., 2013). Due to these issues, international students can face even greater challenge adjustment problems that may affect the student’s academic success and wellbeing (Poyrazli and Grahame, 2007).…

Thankfully, I don’t have any life changing events that drastically affected the way I live and breathe, but I wouldn’t say I live a perfect life. I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and went to school there until the Summer of ‘14. Before then, I would rarely go to school due to overall laziness which caused my grades to take a toll. My mother, of course was disappointed in my behavior willing to send me to boarding school or something if she really had to . Little did I know, I was treading on thin ice.…

My early years were a little weird when it comes to where I truly grew up. Originally, I was born in Terre Haute, a run down city that was on the verge of being in Illinois. I don’t remember much of what I thought of it when I was young, but since the times I have gone back to it, my initial thoughts about it being sort of trashy didn’t change. However, when I was four-years-old, I wouldn’t have to fret over living in Terre Haute anymore. It was that year that we moved south into a Princeton where I would only live there a miniscule amount of time before we would move again.…
