As I walked through the front doors of Allentown Central Catholic High School, I felt a sudden rush of panic. Everything I had once seen and had once been familiar with in middle school quickly vanished into thin air. I was terrified, not because I thought I was going to get lost, but because I knew that every little quiz I took, every little paper I wrote, and every exam I labored over would now count toward my ultimate goal of getting into a prestigious university. I wasn’t scared of new faces, but rather new beginnings and experiences.…

I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

I was unfamiliar with the process of choosing the order of courses that would transition me to graduation. As a result, I took several non-required courses, and I even took some of the needed courses, for my degree, out of order. Needless to say, I hit an academic wall that lasted five long semesters. It would have been easier for me to change majors for the sake of graduation, but being in such a predicament only sharpened my perseverance and molded my determination. While these academic complications seemed unbearable at the time, my senior year turned out to be my most challenging year.…

I am a perfectionist. Ever since I was young, my parents have always pressured me to achieve the very best in life. My parents got divorced before I was born and they always told me that I could be anything I wanted as long as it was a better life than the one they had growing up. This has caused my childhood to be plagued with a desire to succeed in everything I do. Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…
