The first time I went skiing
Have you ever had your ski’s hanging off a mountain and starting to sweat wondering, how you are going to get down? The warm sun beated down on my face as I breathed in cold air chilling my throat tingling on the way down. This is what I was feeling on the first time down the mountain skiing. At the time I didn’t know this would become one of the highlights of the trip.
On our way to Colorado we stopped at my grandmas house to have a nights rest before we drive another couple of hours in the bright morning. Her house is over a hundred years old but you couldn’t tell from the outside, when you enter the smell of cigarettes and breakfast food hits you. She quickly gets up to greet us, she’s been waiting up because we arrived at 2:30. She has a

When we walked to check into the rooms are feet crunched in the snow there seemed to be an even layer of snow coating everything around us. It took several trips to get all of our things up to our rooms, they were small and cheap with a dingy feel. We didn’t care for long though because my brother and i got the same room but my mother and father didn’t have to cram in with us. Later we decided to head to the skiing lodge at nine o'clock so we were told to get up when we need to to get ready in time. The next morning as i went outside after taking a shower and getting dressed my hair froze into icicles and i got even colder than the outside temperature made me. Soon after that we made a morning stop to get breakfast the place we could count on mcdonald's. After we finished eating we headed to rent out skis the line had about five groups of people in it which went by surprisingly fast. Once we got our skis and snow gear on we went outside. Surprisingly the weather was refreshing and not cold from the warm stuffy lodge we had previously been

The wind whipped bitterly by and I pulled up the fabric on my face, looking forward at the ski track in front of me. I knew the race ahead was important, but all I was concerned about in that moment was how frigid my legs felt. He turned around and I jumped, ever so slightly, because when his face had been revealed, I could see the stark horror of the burns on his face.…

I peer over the edge, wincing at the jet black body of water beneath me. I have just climbed a series of boulders, and am now at the top of a cliff, a couple hundred feet above the ground. How I ended up here, I am not quite sure. Physically, I am well aware; Mentally…not so much. For much of my life, I had remained far more cautious than my peers, preferring the safety of the ground to the risks of water and heights Yet, for some unusual reason, I had decided on this particular day that I would attempt cliff diving.…

Pink-tinted goggles protect my eyes from the sun’s blinding rays that reflect off the snow. A black gaiter shields my neck and face from the biting wind as I cruise past miles of shimmering white snow and lush evergreen trees. Cross-country skiing is something different and out of my comfort zone. While I treasure the select days I can go skiing in the winter, I can only go down greens and a few blues without feeling terrified and finding myself inching down the side of the hill at a snail’s pace. Even going down the greens, beginner trails that some may find boring, I feel a sense of adventure and exhilaration as I ski alongside the younger, yet more experienced children.…

The snow always fascinated me as a child and that fascination has stayed with me into young adulthood. Something about it invariably grasped my attention, coerced me into halting whatever I was doing at the moment to watch the flurry of snowflakes with wonder. It was winter of 2013 and even though I was at the young age of ten, I had this queer feeling. It felt like there was something missing, as if there was an empty void inside me, I couldn’t pinpoint it. That feeling came by often, especially during that year, and I felt like nothing would ever get rid of that awful feeling.…

I've always loved snowboarding through sickness and through health. It’s a stress reliever that helps me cope with my problems. When I was thirteen I had colorful green and white snowboard with abstract designs, when I stood tall it would come up to my chin. I grew attached to it because I've been through so much with the board. You could tell it was starting to wear down due to cracks in the base that looked like large canyons and every year I would take it with me to Vail to use it.…
