The radiance and opulent magnificence of the exceptional works of art on display was fascinating. It is an astounding collection of ornaments, ranging from shimmering bowls carved out of crystal and agate, to jeweled gold figurines to the Dresden Green, the world‘s largest and finest natural 41 carat green diamond. August II purchased it at the 1742 Easter Fair in Leipzig for the immense amount of 400,000 Thalers! The Historic Green Vault recreates the grand halls of Augustus, with rooms devoted to specific materials such as ivory and amber, and suites of gems classified by color. These rooms are baroque works of art in themselves, mirrored and painted malachite green with gold trimmings. We chose Freiberger Schankhaus this is a nice restaurant frequented by locals located at Neumarkt square. They serve their kitchen classics like the saxon sauerbraten, pork schnitzel and their specialties like roasted pork knuckle and the roasted blood sausage. They also have soups salads, and vegetarian menu aswell. I ordered my usual roasted pork knuckle with sauer kraut and potatoes. This is my favourite meal to order whenever we visit Germany. It always reminds me of a dish I used to eat back home in the Philippines and we call it crispy pata. The only difference is that we deep fry the pork in the Philippines to get it really crispy and serve with a vinaigrette sauce with rice. My boyfriend ordered a pork schnitzel and he also tried the local beers. I was a bit disappointed with my roasted pork knuckle as it wasn’t as crispy as the ones I have tried in Cologne or Munich but I was so hungry so I finished the lot.
After our meal, we decided to go for a walk around the square which looked so magical that night. You’ll never miss this magnificent looking church called Frauenkirche. Again this church was destroyed during World War 2 and they have beautifully restored it. Two opera singers were singing in front of the church, which made the evening so romantic so we stopped and listened for a bit. I was actually very pleased with their performance, that I gave
