“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. I finished all of my homework but once again I ignored the fact that my L.A. paper would be due very soon and left it for tomorrow ignoring the consequences in the back of my mind. I played my game until late again, pushing the waves of tiredness and the thoughts of how staying up late again will effect me

We decided to leave in August. A late June departure would have been warmer, drier, and offered more hours of daylight but work schedules prevented that choice. A perk was that it was a slower time of year for tourism and we could expect lower prices and lighter crowds. As many as five others talked about joining us, but life, jobs, and family demands dwindled the numbers to Mike and I. With only two months to go, we were caribou in the headlights.…

In doing so, I would ultimately benefit by becoming more mindful and achieving emotional intelligence. I was very motivated to make this change because I enjoy self-reflecting and I was very eager to see a difference.…
