Personal Narrative: A Classic Military Child

A classic military child. A classic military move. However, the move took on another classical connation for me. The transition embodied a new persona, one entirely distinct from the preceding moves. This one felt like a classical fairy tale. At the miniscule stage in my life, I had little recognition of the actions inundating me until my mother broke this “enchanting” news in terms I could comprehend. We were moving from Michigan to Germany. While the conception of residing in Europe awes some individuals, for a little girl of five the conception felt utterly terrifying to leave my country behind to go to a strange distant land. Instead of living with a father in the air force commanded by a general, I denounced living with a knight or solider ruled by some far off king. Imagine the king sending his messengers to my father declaring us to travel to the faraway land! In retrospect, my fantasies made the reality more endurable. The regime of our house soon grew into something disdainful with boxes piling up high as mountains and clutter encumbering nearly every location in every room. No longer did we have order and structure; we had a Wonderland experience where nothing seemed ordinary, and rightfully so because how could one know how to live on a new country, let alone a new continent! Nonetheless, we could not combat the inevitable; fortunately for us, the military, the knights and soldiers, took care of the majority of the relocation. Our mountains of boxes transfigured over night into newly established castles and fortresses in Germany. Before they were constructed, the clutter accompanying them crept out of their containments and once again took over the house. Luckily for me, I took shelter in the fortitude of
