Since I was around the age of five, I have told everyone who has asked that I wanted to be an author when I grew up. It was never a question of if I became an author, but rather when. I began writing poems in second grade and have been writing ever since. Writing became my therapy. I would sit and write for hours, writing stories about everything from dragons and mythology to modern day tales of hope and courage. In high school, I began to win awards for the works I was writing, but oftentimes, I would submit something for a contest only to be completely rejected. Becoming a writer is no easy task, as there is not a set time or salary involved. This is perhaps the greatest struggle of being a writer: many people love to write, but whether or not they are good at it is a completely different question. There have been many times that I have written a story or poem and had it completely rejected by readers. The key is in finding the bridge between the readers and the point one is trying to get …show more content…
Deciding to try to pursue writing as a career is honestly a very terrifying option. There will most likely be years of rejections and refusals, terrible opinions, and months of writer’s block. I will need to find another job to do well at to support my family, but writing will always be my love. I hope to truly succeed in this field, and would love to work in publishing or editing to help others achieve their dreams of publishing a book. Writing is about more than words on a page; it is about words on a page that suddenly take on new meaning. Words have the power to change people’s minds and opinions, tell stories, expand imaginations, and expose feelings and emotions we hardly knew we had. These reasons are why I long to be an author, and although there will be difficulty, I am ready to rise to the

All writers are passionate about writing. Few writers, however, are fortunate enough to make a living off of their calling, or even to publish a book. In today 's modern world of consumerism, being an author on a full-time basis is no longer an option for more than an elite few. The majority of published authors are also productive members of society in another sense, taking on some other form of gainful employment. To find out more about this double life of an author, I managed to procure an interview with Struan Sinclair, who on top of being a professor at the University of Manitoba, has published three books, with a fourth currently in the publishing process.…

My favorite author as a child had to be Richelle Mead and, later, Edgar Allen Poe. Reading their work has inspired my writing style. Being sucked into their worlds, seeing what they saw, filled a desire deep within myself. I craved to have a book of my own, to create a character and live through them, and escape from my own reality for awhile. I’ve written many stories so far, and I’ve produced a film called “Donut Druggies”,…

My entire life, I knew that I was destined to have a career associated with writing; it was my past, present, and future. My ultimate goal is to eliminate bias in the media, but for now I am satisfied as long as I attain a job that includes writing. Throughout my life, I seized several opportunities to turn one hobby into my future. At the age of eight, I mostly cared about about three things: High School Musical, what was for dinner, and journalism. I had recently moved from England to Hawaii and was curious as to why my new, shiny, perfect elementary school did not have a school newspaper.…

These books were my first look into writing for recreation and not just as some school assignment. These worlds created through words encouraged me to find more complex ways to describe the subjects that I wrote about instead of just using the quickest and simplest words that could express the same message. This new descriptive way of writing eventually caused me to meet many young writers. Though I was not always one for writing in my spare time I often enjoyed reading the work of other writers, especially friends and classmates. Due to the knowledge I had gained through my many hours of reading I was often asked to read and edit others work.…
