My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience.…

As I worked toward my Eagle Scout Award, I became Senior Patrol Leader of my Boy Scout Troop #83. In this role, I was to lead the troop of 15-20 active members ranging from fifth grade to twelfth grade. When I took this leadership role, the troop was having difficulty retaining membership, the parents complained about lengthy award events, the youth leadership that I replaced did not take their role seriously, scout behavior became disruptive and unacceptable, and overall the meetings just were not as productive. In addition to these challenges, the charter church was sold and we had to relocate. As for the troop, I saw great potential, but knew that I had much to accomplish in my six-month term.…

But for some reason; I’m not sure now if it was the friendly scouts, or the exuberant leaders, I decided to join.…
