Personal Narrative: A Career As A Co-Worker

Improved Essays
It was one busy summer day in June where I used to work at a nursing home. One of my co-workers named Nancy asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I told her that I wanted to be a Registered Nurse. She smiled and with joy and told me I should start off as an LVN, which stands for Licensed Vocational Nurse. She also mentioned that these classes were offered free by Golden Living Centers. I wondered, “Free?” I was shocked and wanted to know more. She told me that every six months or so they accept a few people for their program. They must meet all qualifications and pass math exams. She then gave me the number. Nancy also mentioned that it was very fast paced and strict but was worth it. I was excited! A new opportunity was offered to me and I just wanted to start as soon …show more content…
It stated the time and date of the application process and also what is expected to bring to this application process. The next slot for application was in 3 months. I was deciding on going back to school because at that time I’d barely turned 19 and wanted to reach my dream career of becoming a nurse. It was either enroll at Delta or take this risk of getting accepted to this LVN program. My co-worker also told me that during the time of the application I should arrive very early because it gets full quickly and they only give a few applications. The time they were going to hand out applications was around 8 am. She also explained how she took her daughter to this program which then ended up graduating and is working in the bay area while also continuing her school which is paid by her work. “Arrive very early Lupe! You don’t want to miss this opportunity. I know you can do it and god knows also.” Nancy said. Her motivational words very inspired me and also reminded me that I should bring my mom with me so she can support me in the process. I couldn’t wait to go home that day. I was eager to tell my parents about

Clarence, I agree with you completely that older generations follow the motto “a hard day’s work for an honest day’s pay”. I work with a few older employees and they work 5x harder than some of the younger employees I work with. I also received a 35 on my EI test which I was not surprised of either. I have a very high work ethic and have very little time for play in my job. I do need to learn to put myself in others shoes; sometimes this is very hard for me to do.…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…
