During my time as a midshipman at the University of Michigan, I had many opportunities to hone my leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. For two years, I was in charge of organizing an annual Veteran’s Day ceremony hosted by the University of Michigan ROTC units at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor. This ceremony was an opportunity for midshipmen, cadets, and unit staff members to interact with disabled veterans and show appreciation for their service and sacrifice. This ceremony required coordination and communication between many different groups, such as hospital staff, the three ROTC units, and distinguished guest speakers. As my NROTC unit’s safety officer, I was responsible for overseeing all of the battalion’s activities, ensuring every risk was accounted for, and that the proper safety measures were in place to mitigate said risk. This included high-risk evolutions such as physical training, drill/lab activities, and the events for the drill competition our unit hosted. …show more content…
