The pursuit of education is founded on various reasons with each learner depicting distinct views on why there is need to learn. Getting a chance in the higher education realm is considered a privilege for some learners, especially because there are specific qualifications required for one to fit in such an environment. As is put by Robert Proctor, “Ignorance is a product of inattention, and since we cannot study all things, some by necessity—almost all, in fact—must be left out” (7), it is vital to note that ignorance, as a choice that is selective, may involve more than a person’s decisions to what to study. Therefore, while the prerequisites may be general, such as the attainment of pre-determined cut-off points, specificity emerges afterward when certain core subjects are demanded a specific course or career path. I have basic knowledge about what would be required of me out there in the field as either an accountant, financial advisor, or any other career that my educational pursuit might land me into. I have watched people engage in accountancy work and have also experienced a scenario where I had to sit with someone for a financial advisory. However, the calculus involved in yielding the financial statements, for instance, for a company remains something alien to me. This is one reason that motivated to join UNF.
