Personal Footprint

Great Essays
First: briefly explain what these footprint measures represent. You will need to look around each of the websites and figure out what these calculators are actually doing. When it comes to the different footprint measures, each of the approaches the calculations in similar, but also slightly different ways. The Footprint Network, calculates the human pressure we have on the earth, or the supply and demand of productive area we require to continue living out lives. The World Wildlife Fund site, uses our personal impression on the world to measure carbon emissions, or all of the greenhouse gases that can be produced, which they then convert into the main greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Next, the Carbon Footprint site, measures …show more content…
The Nature Conservancy site, measures our impact on the climate through they amount of greenhouse gases we emit. Finally, the Conservation International site, takes carbon emissions (it is stated that one metric ton of carbon equals roughly 3.67 metric tons of carbon dioxide) and converts it to the amount of carbon dioxide we are emitting.

Second: describe the results of your footprint analyses. Numbers are important, but be sure to describe how your footprint compares to national or world averages, as well as to the per capita footprint needed for a sustainable world.

When it comes to my personal footprint analyses, it was interesting to see how it compared to national and world averages. as well as the next ten years. When it came to the Footprint Networks site, my footprint both now and in the future ten years, was slightly below the United Stats ecological footprint of 6.8. As of right now, I am using 4.3 earths, and 1.9 global acres. While in ten years I will be potentially using

Overall, the sites and their consumption measurements fell where I thought I would be. The only one I not sure is as accurate as it could've been was the Carbon Footprint site because I wasn't sure just ow much electricity, and what not I was using, so I just estimated, meaning that I could have been way off. Having said that, this exercise did make me aware of how I am affecting the planet, and did provide me with ideas on how to go about changing my consumption patterns. After doing this exercise, I am more fully aware that I should be recycling a lot more than I currently am. That maybe I don’t need a new shirt every week, and that I should be more observant of where I am getting my food from, rather than just buying something because it looks good, or its cheaper than other options. Overall, the exercise made me ore conscious of how I am impacting the earth and I think that will help me try my best to improve going

The world’s population is constantly growing, and with this comes the growth of the world’s middle class. The growth of the world’s middle class is beneficial to those who are moving up in their social and socio-economic statuses, however, this global increase of middle classes can be seen to be linked with the global increase in ecological footprint. The amount of people living in a middle class status has increased dramatically, similarly to global ecological footprint which is also increasing at a high rate. These two things can be linked to each other, as the rising global amount of middle class people can be seen as a cause for the increase in global ecological footprint.…

    What Is Adaptation?

    • 1030 Words

The concepts of adaptation and mitigation have been vital to the evolution of the human race especially in the period where humans moved from scattered bands of hunter gatherers to the sedentary agricultural societies. Adaption has do with the ability to adjust to changes that occur in ones surroundings to best suits ones needs. A simple example of adaptation might be if a hunter gatherer group could not find adequate herds of prey in the region they lived in, so they subsequently moved to somewhere with more resources. On the other hand, mitigation is the creation of solutions for problems. Taking the hunter gatherer example from above, the group could have encouraged new herds of animals by burning parts of the forest to encourage fresh vegetation…

    Kyoto Protocol Effect

Since developed countries are largely responsible for the current anthropogenic concentrations of GHGs in the atmosphere, this protocol was specifically targeted at those countries; Annex 1 parties (Böhringer, 2003; UNFCCC, 1998). GHGs in the atmosphere diffuse across the globe, therefore emissions from one country invariably influence global GHG concentrations. Thus, international cooperation is important since each country contributes emissions to an issue which has consequences on the global scale (Lu et al., 2007). The goal of the Kyoto Protocol was to reduce global GHG emissions to an extent that was predicted to prevent dangerous influences on climate. Specific and quantifiable GHG emission targets were given to the Annex 1 parties, 38 developed countries, across a time scale; an average reduction of 4.2% from 1990 levels in the period of 2008 to 2012 (Schiermeier (2012).…
