Personal Experience: A Cultural Analysis

Having grown up in China, I was raised in a culture that is different from American culture in various ways. Coming from a family that pays a lot of attention to home education, many traditional Chinese virtues have been taught to me, including being respectful to others, being modest and diligent. The decision of came to America for high school at the age of fifteen opened up my cultural perspectives and experiences. During my three years of stay in the US, not only did I improve my English skills, I also learnt to be more independent and innovative. Independence and innovativeness are two important virtues in American culture. The experience of living in China and America allowed me to absorb the virtues from both cultures and avoid their defects at the same time. In the big community of the University of Washington, I will be able to share the values of Chinese culture with others while influencing individuals from different countries who struggle to embrace American culture. …show more content…
As a photographer, I have experiences finding moments of many cultural around the world though my lens. I’d love to capture the beauty of the variety of cultural in UW and show it to the rest of the world. As a musician, I’m able to perform mixture of music in different style from different cultural. I hope to bring new elements to UW by playing my music around the
