We arrived in Southern Florida early Saturday morning. Our first stop was to acquire a vital weapon for our war on the fish, a proper spear gun. We opted with JBL’s 38 Special Northwest. It was described to the two of us as the speargun that started it all, the employee at the local rental store told us, “The JBL Magnum series of guns is probably responsible for more speared fish than all other spearguns combined.” It was a no-brainer really. This particular reef was home to an abundant of different saltwater fish species-- and the occasional reef shark. The company we rented the boat from was gracious enough to include stringers that you roped the speared fish around and weight belts to counteract the buoyancy of the wetsuits.
