Throughout my life, I have never considered myself a writer. Though many teachers have expressed their appreciation for my use of tone and personality through my writing, I have always encountered issues with my choice of sentence structure, which resulted in many grammatical and mechanical errors. This feedback allowed me to achieve satisfactory grades, falling short of the A’s I desired. This way of writing followed me through high school and into college. I came into Writing 101 with no aspiration in improving my writing skills. I felt as if I was an everlasting average student, unable to develop my writing ability. This negative outlook changed gradually after I received each grade in my first semester course of college writing. These grades demonstrated the amount of potential I had in becoming a more proficient writer. Excitement consumed me as I found out the first paper in …show more content…
My teacher showed me how to correctly write them and taught me more specifically how to record a citation from an advertisement. Learning this allowed me to accurately put together a work-cited page and enforce professionalism and credibility. Not only did my citations assist my readers in understanding my arguments and opinions, it was also necessary to avoid the issue of plagiarism. My audience’s understanding is very important to me, so a legitimate works cited page is vital when I format my essay. This advancement in my documentation helped me achieve a grade of a 91, which represented a positive reinforcement of my progress. The last paper I completed in class was an argument essay. I found it difficult to write about my topic due to my dispassionate outlook. This attitude of mine had a huge impact on my paper’s final grade; however, there were only a few grammatical errors. It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

Writing has been my talent since grade school; I couldn’t sing, or dance but I could write, or so I thought. Then, I entered high school and realized that writing required a lot more than it did in middle school. Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…
