An Analysis of My Personal Conflict Style The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, which is an assessment used globally in conflict handling, specifies five strategies used to address conflict (Evans, 2013). They are as follows: Accommodating, Collaborating, Avoiding, Competing, and Compromising (Evans, 2013). Understanding your conflict style is compared to understanding your morals. To know, is to be prepared for any type of conflict. I will review my personal conflict style, discuss pros and cons thereof, and ultimately, check the flexibility of my style so as to avoid getting stuck in a style (Hocker & Wilmot, 2014).
My Conflict Style- Engaging Shark
When I took a conflict style quiz, it confirmed what I knew to be my conflict style, the “engaging” Shark. This conflict style is competitive, sometimes ruthless, and definitely aggressive. Depending on my audience, the shark, will have a sneaky approach that will keep my opponent at bay for an attack. The shark will also begin the process of conflict, with sizing its prey up for challenge. I have always enjoyed a good conflict, and I feel confident in my success of resolution. If I go into the conflict with determinacy, as I am clever and sharp witted. I have also determined over the years, that I do not flee, like a shark. I am not an avoider, I am usually the last one standing by choice.

My parents are the only example I had, as I was an only child. I do think that they raised me into the aggressive conflict style that I display today. The biggest issue in our household, was which shark had the biggest bite. I truly do not get into too many conflicts as a result of this, as everyone knows this of me. I am also a planner, and I have my research at the tip of my tongue. Brisk action, with smart moves, is what I have been described as in a conflict situation.
