Boys Scouts has been a part of my life for the past six years, and it has taught me how to be courteous, helpful, and kind not only to others, but to myself. I achieved the Eagle Scout ranking recently, and now that I look back at all of the years of dedication put in, I have realized how much Boy Scouts has contributed to the building of my character. Community service helped me build a character on the outside, but being trustworthy and loyal on the inside were aspects of character I only could’ve learned by being social and trusting my own instincts. My character has also grown from my participation in the arts. I have been in band for the past six years, and music has become nothing but a passion to me. Expressing my individuality through music for the first time in the sixth grade was eye opening to me. Ever since my first experience of music, I have come to realize that outward appearance is not nearly as important as character and heart. I try to live my everyday life in the bounds of my own character, not trying to be like everyone else. Being different is important to me, so being able to create music and express individuality every day is something that I cherish dearly. Playing on the tennis team has also contributed to my character. Being on the team has taught me that you can do anything you set your heart to, and that there are no bounds to what you can achieve.
