Perry Field House Internship Reflection

Improved Essays
Prior to the job Expo held at the Perry Field House, I had did some research to find out what exactly it entailed. I get regular campus updates and the Expo was one listed to learn about. The update led to the Fall 2015 Expo Guide, which gave information about possible internships from employers and what was to be expected. The research was very helpful because I had no idea what the Expo even presented. The only problem I faced was that I was extremely underdressed. The assignment mentioned business casual, but I did not expect to see people wearing suits. I do not have a suit with me on campus, so to say the least; I was very underdressed for the occasion. The Expo was not what I was expecting it to be. There were numerous employers to talk to students about possible internships. The line of different speakers felt never ending and I was not sure which to meet with first. Due to the fact that I am undecided, I felt as if I was not prepared and would not be considered a good candidate to talk to these important people. I did not want to waste their time simply because I was student there to fill out an assignment. Speaking to certain advisors did help me learn about co-ops and internships and how they work. They were helpful to me even though I was not a real candidate. …show more content…

He mentioned careers such as job managers, team leaders, and reimbursement analysts. This organization does not really match up with my skills because it involves things that I am not searching

This past Saturday, I went to deaf awareness day at White Bear Lake High school. I had been eyeballing the event for some time since it seemed like a good way to see what the Deaf community is like on a larger scale than a single theater performance or game. I drove with Beth, and we ended up bumping into additional classmates on our way into the event. The six of us spent our time walking around to the many booths and asking questions as we went. I was surprised by the variety of presenters.…

While some people may think of event management as a degree in party planning, it is gaining credibility as a legitimate career. The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council created event management standards which also led to the definition of exactly what an event is (Robertson, 2015). An event is “a social form that organizes interaction in a distinctive way” or the “gathering of three or more people who agree to assemble for a purpose ostensibly related to the functioning of an organization or group” (Beaulie, 2004). According to Michael Auerbach, “in 2006 there were 51,000 event planners in the U.S. and 39% of those were within an event planning company” which demonstrates the grand size of the industry and its obvious importance to society (2015). The purpose of this paper is to explore a career in event planning.…
