This will help any swelling and hopefully lower any pain. Soak the area in warm water two to three times a day for the first week after birth can also bring down pain (Mayo clinic, 2015). This will expand vessels and increase blood supply to the laceration. Applying witch hazel pads should bring comfort to the affected area. Applying a squirt bottle filled with warm water to cleanse the area rather than wiping with toilet tissue is recommended. Avoid sitting for long periods. When possible, lie on your back or side. He was present upon arrival but left around 1 pm. The patient started to breastfeed after her husband left and continued to do so intermittently (with formula) until the end of our care (4 pm). She was given stadol 2mg as a one-time dose (IV push) for pain, prescribed Ducosate Sodium (Colace) 100 mg PO bid as needed, Ibuprofen (PO) 600 mg every 6 hours, and lanolin topical (prn) every hour.
