Beauty enhancement is yet another similarity between our world and Oryx and Crake. It can be analogous to our society mentality of beauty and the lengths we are willing to do to achieve it. Face lifts, Botox, any surgeries that relate to beauty are practically having the same impression with the procedures mentioned in the novel, which one of it would be the “six week AnooYoo follicle-regrowth course” (Atwood 252). However, in finding the path to these perfections, their ambition itself became the catalyst that leads their world into destruction. Atwood wanted to argue that once the ideal perfection has been achieved, the gear or the ambition will stop and the world will fall apart. This is exactly what happens to Oryx and Crake at once, they achieve the perfection they’ve been longing for, everything falls apart, leading to the destruction of their world. What makes the world going is the ambition and strive to reach perfection. The same thing goes with our world. Our world is striving for perfection. With the world in Oryx and Crake is now in an apocalyptic state, our world will be no different than theirs. The only difference would be that the world in Oryx and Crake has halted and fell apart, while we are still heading towards that direction. Atwood has already made it clear enough of how our world is heading in the same direction, the path of destruction that was taken by the society from the world of Oryx and Crake. Through the similarities of our world and Oryx and Crake, which are how both world revolve around techolgoies, how the world filled with greedy people, and finally how both worlds has the same principle. All of these are one of the many proofs to indicate about how accurate the resemblance of the world in Oryx and Crake to reality is. Soon enough, our world too, will walk through
