How Many Drops of Water can a Penny Hold?

Statement of the problem/purpose:
The purpose of this experiment is to see how many drops of water a penny can hold. The point of this experiment is to teach the class about cohesion. Cohesion is the molecular force between particles within a body or substance that acts to unite them. Cohesion is in easier terms the bubble on top of the water you are pouring or the skin. It is like overflow without spilling over the side.

Hypothesis:
My hypothesis is that the penny would not be able to very many drops of water do to such a small surface area. My estimate would be that the penny would hold about twenty drops of water.

Throughout my high school sports career I was apart of many teams, including taking part in football and baseball. Cohesiveness played a big part success as a team. When other teammates choose not to show up to practice, this influenced our team in a negative way. Poor productivity at practice became evident when it came time for our games. However, good practices and hard work brought a high level of cohesiveness.…

    A Dull Penny Lab

In this lab we took a dull penny from before the year 1970 and changed its color to a shiny gold with the help of chemistry. First, we used a vinegar and salt mixture and scrubbed it onto the penny. This process cleaned all of the dark corrosion spots away and made the copper color shine like new, which then allowed us to have a clean surface to experiment on. This was mostly a physical change but their was a slight chemical reaction because of the acidity of the vinegar. We then heated granular zinc and zinc chloride solution with the penny in a dish on a hot plate until it boiled.…

Debate has arisen in the United States over the economic value and need of the penny. The penny is the United States’ coin with the smallest value---only one cent. Recently, many have been discussing getting rid of the penny. It’s a waste of money and materials to produce and they’re easily forgotten more often than used. After much deliberation, I can conclude that penny is insignificant to our economic system and getting rid of it would benefit the United States’ economy.…

Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich and The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass are both books that experience more than one “face” from the “Five Faces of Oppression” by Iris Young. The “ Five Faces of Oppression” include Exploitation( the act of using people's labors to produce profit while not contemplating them fairly). Marginalization ( the act of relegating or confining a group to a lower social standing or edge of society) . Powerlessness( the upper or ruling class are situated to give orders and the lower class must take orders) . Violence( the most obvious form of oppression which is meant to damage or destroy the person) .…

Since the year of 1787 people have been walking around with a jingle in their pants from their loose change. Today, change is only seen as two additional decimal places in an American’s bank account. In the fast moving world Americans presently live in, their time has become their most precious asset, leaving no moments to count their change to an exact value. Due to this, the existence of the penny has become a marginal inconvenience of the modern day. Altogether, the American penny is no longer practical or necessary in a world where time is money, and time is being wasted counting a cent at a time.…

Spending only a minute or two on counting pennies would be the far better option than rounding taxes, given the impact. Additionally, while it might be true that the components of the penny are a bit heavy, there are other solutions rather than getting rid of the coin altogether. Over the years, the contents of the penny have been changed many times due to the Congress trying to find cheaper metal substitutions. Back then, pennies were 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc and now changed to 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper to try the lower the costs of the metals. The next step?…

In the experiment, I tested how soapy water would affect the amount of droplets the penny can hold. The results of my experiment show that the penny holds less droplets of soap water. When the soap is added to the water, the soap collides with water breaking down the tension. As a result, it harder for the droplets to hold together. To find whether my hypothesis was right, I did several of trials to figure out whether my hypothesis was correct.…

This positive outcome happens when the team’s perception of the coach works together with their leadership behavior (Vella, & et. al, 2013). Cohesion is when a group sticks together and is united in achieving goals (Cox, 2012). Not only were the Ducks united on the rink but they displayed their group cohesion so strongly when they “quacked” at the principle of their school and they all ended up in detention. Another time was when a player from the Hawks, Banks, was transferred to their team.…

Task cohesion involves the ambitions of working toward the team’s objectives as a whole (Crocker, 2016). In the clip from Remember the Titans called “Creation of a Team” the Black and White football players come together to form one football team. While the two groups do not initially get along with each other, they all remain on the team as they all have a similar goal; to play football, and to hopefully win the championship. The second aspect of cohesion involves social cohesion, which describes the interpersonal relationships of the team members (Pescosolido & Saavedra, 2012) or, the social desirability of remaining in a group (Grieve, Whelan & Meyers, 2000). The definition of cohesion states that it is a dynamic process, meaning the reasons for cohesion may change over time.…
