Pediatrician Personal Statement

One of my earliest childhood memories was picking up a toy stethoscope, an otoscope, and a reflex hammer, and “inspecting” my family for any illnesses. Around age 10, I started checking my grandmother’s sugar levels, disinfecting small cuts, doing research online according to people’s symptoms, and other meek procedures. I did this because I loved the smile of gratitude that I received in return. As I grew older, I became aware of the plight and need of the poor children in terms of health conditions where my mother is originally from which is Mexico. So I decided to think of something that would greatly help them, though at the same time, I became aware of the price of medical fees, which, I realized, obscured them from receiving medical …show more content…
I thought, this may be it! Something clicked in me and I realized that I would have to give it my all from that day on. My knowledge about it was really vague though, but as the years passed in high school, I knew more and more about how to become a doctor and of the impact doctors could make. That is one of the main reasons as to why I am applying to this specific college, to see if I truly want to pursue this. While I was attending one of the top ten high schools in Texas, I tried my best to obtain good and high grades and being active throughout the years. By joining the National Honor Society, OneGoal Graduation Program, and having an internship at my local foster shelter, I managed to get a taste of how difficult life can be and that it’s up to us to make it better. I accomplished all these with the belief that these activities would prepare me for my future. The main goal in the long-term though, is to place a smile in people’s faces just like when I was younger. With the proper decisions and willpower, I know I will be capable in the future to truly help children in need with a proper medical care. I want to be part of the future and turn the impossible to possible and while I’m in college, I will have the opportunity to finally decide what will be the best option for me. Because then, I will finally be able to say, ok I have achieved my

As a child, I remember my mother would bring me to the doctor’s office every other week for minimal reasons, such as a simple cough or a headache. Although I insisted I felt fine, she was always worried my condition was worse than it appeared. Over time, the appointments became mundane as there was nothing significantly wrong with me, and my pediatrician told my mother to stop bringing me so often. As I got older, I realized my mother and I grew in different settings. She was raised in a Vietnamese village, where access to treatment and health care education were limited and overlooked.…

To be successful, to be intelligent, to be a change. Those are the three main reasons I want to attend college. In this day and age, many jobs require a higher level of education to be able to work. Those jobs that don’t require a degree, depend upon more manual labor, backbreaking work and lower wages. I would rather remain in school longer, expand my knowledge, and get a career on everything I have learned, than go straight to the work field to earn less and do more.…

Wake Early College and STEM Early College came to my middle school to give a presentation on the schools, and my dad was taken away with how great Wake Early College was. I, however, liked STEM more because it was at North Carolina State University, and I knew that if I could do well in the high school classes and college classes mixed there, then I would have a great chance of getting into NCSU.…
