Being able to memorize and repeat information is what our society defines as intelligence, but in reality being able to problem solve is the highest form of intelligence. Researchers, for example, spend their lives discovering and interpreting new information. Engineers and scientists spend their lives finding ways to continue progress and inform the world of new processes or advancements in different fields of study. These people devote their lives to problem solving, imagine where society would be without them. All sources of new information and technologies would become stagnate. Freire wrote this article for people to acknowledge banking, he did not call for banking to be completely erased. As a student, it is important to understand that what banking is and how it affects me. A student should push to understand processes in every subject. For example, they should “perceiving what four times four really means, or realizing the true significance of "capital" in the affirmation "the capital of Para is Belem," that is, what Belem means for Para and what Para means for Brazil” (Freire, Chapter 2). As a student, Freire’s ideas expand my view on what I am truly capable of. In theory, if everyone understood Paulo’s view on banking the advances in education would be tremendous. Sadly, this is not the case for many people, students and teachers alike. Banking takes away from the process of learning connection, and thus mitigates our knowledge. The most important concept to take away from this passage is to learn how to problem solve, and understand that we have not learned everything.
