My Visit to The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts.

On my visit I quietness at the premises, then I took some pictures outside the museum after which I proceeded to the entrance into the museum. I met a lady at the desk who welcomed me; I approached her, and relate to her my mission. The gallery attendant walked me through the highlights of the exhibition. Initially, I was told not to enter into the Rebecca Cole gallery area due to the reason that a table lamb’s light has been removed, but was later allowed in to see the “France: Northwest Houston Collects”, an exhibition in memory of Winthrop Wyman. I saw series of art works like Henry pether (1828-1865), John Opie (1761-1807), summer on the Loire “Arthur J. Meadows, lots of French collections, French furniture from the oldest to the most recent. Saw different student art works. I saw a painting that I really like to talk more about. The painting is The Virgin and the Child (“The Bridgewater Madonna”) Raphael Sanzio (1483-1520). I learnt that Raphael had made many drawings and painting of the virgin and child, but this work he achieved a particular graceful combination of poses, with an elegant

A curvilinear type of geometrical shape is seen on Virgin Mary’s head. Also there is a straight geometrical shape on the table the mother is sitting on. The artist might have decided to use a dark setting which is a better foil for the subtle modelling of his figures. There is a V-shape where the mother bends her head, looking at her baby which implies a negative shape. The braiding of the edges of Virgin Mary’s hair depicts texture. Color adds value to a work; in this work I can see cool color, red and blue. These colors are both primary colors. The blue color is considered cool in temperature in the color

Even though hair is pushed back, you can tell that it is long. Her expression is very loving and caring towards Jesus (as many artworks display her in this style). The young Jesus Christ lower half is covered by a blanket or a piece of Mary’s robe and you can see the outline shape of his foot. His top half is uncovered and he stretches out his right hand to touch his mother’s face in a loving, playful manner. He has short and curly hair and he has a resemblance of a young angel.…

In the Straus Madonna painting, The mother held the child close to her chest, tucking him from his buttocks with a sense to protect the child. Their heads tilt slightly to the right of the painting in sync, and the child leans lightly on her mother, holding her index finger. This posture evoke a very specific emotional bonding between the Mother and the child as they are packed together tightly in the same direction. The gentle grasp of the child on her mother’s finger evoke a strong sense of connection between them, and also hint on the softness or gentleness of the child. In Romano’s Virgin and the child, the subjects appears to be emotionally closer and evokes a slightly more whimsical and playful feeling.…

I chose the piece SOTC by Kathleen Sherin. This art piece is medium, which sort of allows me to view the details and authentically analyze the artwork. The painting currently goes for 500$ at The Print Club of Rochester 85th Annual Member’s Exhibit. It is an average painting that someone will hang in his or her house as decoration.…

With the Renaissance we saw the comeback of the idea of Humanism, where they saw a crowning achievement in human progress, it encouraged the learning of human beings, emphasizing human potential to attain excellence. It promoted the study of literature, art, poetry, and the civilizations of classical Greece and Rome. Instead of the older world view, where art that didn’t depict religious stories or ideals- was seen as glorifying human achievement, which in turn is taking away from the glory of God. Some examples are, Cimabue, titled Virgin and Child Enthroned, c. 1280. The picture is clearly awkward, and not realistic in any sense.…

I went to the St Louis Art Museum and after attending I believe that I do have a better understanding of the artwork. All the art pieces were spread out through the art museum. They had spaces dedicated to old fashion, furniture sets and a site-specific art piece that Andy Goldsworthy did for the museum. They also at the time had a flower show being put together at the museum where one artwork would get to recreate a piece of work made out of flowers and you were really able to see how the flowers related to the artwork. There are plenty of resources available for attendees.…

The variety of patterns in this composition, including several floral designs and the bold stripes of the woman’s dress is united by a restrained palette of grays and mauves. The soft coloration allows the viewer to concentrate on the subject of the scene- the close relationship between mother and child. Their intimacy is demonstrated by their closely positioned faces and by the circle of touch that extends from the woman’s hand on the child’s foot to the child’s hand to the woman’s knee. In this work, Cassatt evoked the traditional artistic subject matter of the Madonna and Child, making her imagery rather secular then…

    Rosso Fiorentino Analysis

In the Ahmanson building at the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts is one of the most unusual artwork that has ever captured my attention: the Allegory of Salvation with the Virgin and Christ Child, St. Elizabeth, the Young St. John the Baptist and Two Angels. The painting depicts the Virgin Mary, holding the baby Jesus and St. Elizabeth with her son John the Baptist lying dead on the floor while there are two angels above them. It was produced by Italian artist, Rosso Fiorentino in year 1521. Fiorentino’s representation of the virgin and child is very grotesque that some of the art viewers believe this painting is not considered to be part of high renaissance because the holy figures are not classical idealize. I totally disagree with them because it was created during this era, and also the artist was exploring a new style call mannerism.…

Museum/Gallery Paper I went and visited the Wichita Art Museum for this assignment. Going into this assignment I was apprehensive as it had been well over a decade since the last time I have ever been to a museum. From what i did recall I remember finding myself seeing pieces of art and not understanding how that is even considered art. I was, however, looking forward to seeing how my perspective had changed since becoming an adult and after reading the first several chapters of course now having a more of an understanding. I visited the second floor to view their Storytelling Collection.…

The painting is by Master San Torpé, titled Virgin and Child, which is dated 1325, and the medium that the artist uses is egg tempera and gold on a wooden panel with the dimensions of 21 1/8 x 14 1/8; it was viewed for this analysis on March 8, 2018 on the third floor of the SAM museum (fig.1). It is difficult to find preliminary background information about the artist and the museum label offers only the basic identification information as provided in the above. However, Sotheby’s website provides a bit of background information about the artist in the article “Attributed to Master of San Torpé: The Madonna and Child with Angels; Christ Benedict with Angles Above.” He is described in the article as “one of the most important artists active in Pisa,” and yet this distinction has recently drawn an even more elevated appreciation as scholars have attributed a fresh understanding of his talent as having been influenced by other well-known artists like “Duccio…Lorenzitti and also…
