He returned in August of 1777, serving on the staff of George Washington. The first time he ever saw war in action was during the Battle of Brandywine that September.…

There were many more jobs than I expected to find during this period. Some of the jobs I have never even heard of before, or had other names for trades than we do today, such as the milliner was basically a tailor. Unlike the tailor, however, the milliner was selling accessories as well as clothes but didn’t sell any fabric to customers. Being a cooper meant that you would be making barrel containers ranging in various sizes and tightness of wood to hold things ranging from liquids to flour. The barrels they crafted look very similar to the wine barrels we use today to ferment wine.…

Thomas Jefferson is considered to be one of the founding fathers of the U.S., as he played a major role in the drafting of the Declarations of Independence. Another important fact about Jefferson was the fact that he was elected as governor of Virginia during the American Revolution. After the Revolution, he was appointed as minister of France. He also served as the country’s very first Secretary of State, its second Vice President, and its third president.…

The Lasting Effects of Paul Revere’s Ride “Paul Revere’s Ride,” a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, describes an event that made a lasting effect on the history of America as a country. However, the effects are not just limited to the borders of America, for example, Britain was defeated by the American army, so Americans were no longer subject to the British crown. Inside the borders of the United States, the effects were much different. Some of them are obvious, like the fact that America was liberated from the British, and that the midnight ride helped warn the farmers so the militia could defeat the opposing army.…

n this undated letter, written at the request of Jeremy Belknap, corresponding secretary of the Massachusetts Historical Society, Paul Revere summarizes his activities on 18-19 April 1775: he recounts how Dr. Joseph Warren urged him to ride to Lexington (to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams of British troop movements); how he had previously arranged with some fellow Patriots to signal the direction of those movements by placing signal lanterns in the steeple of Old North Church; and how he left Boston from the "North part of the Town," was rowed across the Charles River by two friends, and there borrowed a horse and began his ride. The manuscript letter includes some interlineations, apparently in the hand of Jeremy Belknap. In printing the account in Collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society, 1st series, vol. 5 (1798), Belknap assigned to it the date of 1 January 1798. At the end of the document, Revere signed his name but then, apparently choosing to remain anonymous, wrote…
