Introduction Secrecy is a common factor in the government, they will always hide something from society. It could be to protect us or just to avoid something even bigger. Law enforcement officials use profiling as part of their daily routine, thus giving them an indication of criminal behaviors, acts, threatening and/or dangerous situations. Although profiling is a part of human nature and has been around for decades, it was not until the 90’s that profiling became a major focus and concern in America, separating the two into: criminal profiling and racial profiling. When comparing and contrasting the two, criminal and racial profiling, it is difficult because both have separate yet equal meanings, but are both described as a form of profile in itself. How do they relate? Before the question or situation can be accessed or addressed it is imperative for the officer to take prior training into consideration,…

Police departments have often been accused of racial profiling throughout the years. Many times the incidents ended in tragedies that will not be forgotten. This situation has brought up riots that were uncontrollable and everyone just sat back and watched. Although at times assertiveness might be necessary, the police department often uses too much force and are biased on their targeted suspects, because many incidents have already been reported and many ended in lives lost. Instead of feeling good and protected whenever we see a police officer, people feel scared and nervous even when they have done nothing wrong.…

But in most cases it’s evident that what these officers do, is not within their job description. Before some of us were born, the issue with Rodney King transpired. Some young people, like myself, hadn’t heard of this case before, so after doing extensive research I can say without exaggerating that I am utterly astonished and disgusted. You’d think that after choosing a topic like this, I’d understand more, but the truth is that we won’t ever get accustomed to the way police officers act sometimes. Allow me to give you a brief insight to what happened the night of March 3, 1991.…
However, there are many more factors that contribute to an accidental or intentional use of excessive and sometimes deadly force. One of them is lack of proper training and adequate control in police departments (Lee & Vaughn, 2010, p.193). For instance, some police departments failed to provide their officers with training where they would acquire communication skills regarding mentally ill or emotionally unstable individuals (p.201). All things considered, there are many social,…
