In this assignment, I will review the project proposal of Patrick Overby. I am the City Financial Planner in Omaha, Nebraska. Patrick’s project proposal focuses on building a new fire station in Omaha. Omaha’s Fire Department is designated to receive a completely new fire station in central Omaha, near the current fire station. I will conduct a formal cost-benefit analysis for Patrick’s project proposal.

Patrick’s project objective is a simple plan to build a new fire station in the busiest area of Omaha. The main benefits of this project are to reduce operating costs from the old facility, update the technology within the firehouse, and reduce future fire loss in the city of Omaha. The project will enhance the efficiency and longevity of the firehouse and ensure public safety with all of the residents in Omaha. Additionally, Patrick wants to use some of the funds for maintenance of the fire trucks. In my opinion, Patrick should have specifically illustrated how the updates would help Omaha, financially. I know that electric water meters cut costs, save water, and detect water leaks. These meters also can provide water usage data, so that the fire

Throughout the life of the new fire station, it will produce faster and more efficient response times, which will make a difference between life and death. The highest priority of public service is preserving the life of the citizen within the public. The new fire station will accomplish many goals, but the most important impact is saving the people of Omaha’s property and lives. Life or death can rest on government allocation of resources to particular projects (Mikesell, 2017, pg. 347). The public value of saving lives is immeasurable. Although there is an amount of money you save when extinguishing a fire at a commercial or residential property, there is no monetary value you can place on saving and preserving

When someone mentions the Great Chicago Fire most people just think of the cow that tipped over the oil lantern, but there was really a lot more to it. 18,000 wood buildings were destroyed, 100,000 people were left homeless, and 120 bodies were found but it is estimated that about 300 people died. There is a debate about whether or not the fire left a negative or positive impact in the long run. The negative effects were all the damage done to the city, the amount of people left homeless, and the people who lost their lives. The positive effects were the more secure city that was rebuilt after, the discoveries on materials that could make people safer, and the laws that would make people safer.…
