We live in a society where men grow up pressured to be masculine. Most men tend to have a lower point of view towards women. They doubt them on work and various other things. In the novel My Year of Meats by Ruth L. Ozeki talks about the differences between American and Japanese cultures. Jane Takagi-Little is a Japanese American journalist who is hired to work for a Japanese production company who works with BEEF-EX. The main goal of the production company is to promote the use of American beef in Japan by creating a television show called "My American Wife". The more masculine they are then the more secure they will feel to oppress anyone they want. Johnson states, “Another aspect of male identification is the cultural description of masculinity and the ideal man in terms that closely resemble the core values of society as a whole. These include qualities such as control, strength, efficiency, toughness” (Johnson 160). A man to be masculine has to show the qualities of strength, toughness. Most men tend to show this qualities towards women in order to show who has the power by using violence. Society taught men that the more masculine they are the more respect they will get in order to feel the power every guy wants.
