Recommendations
The research conducted on the issue of patient care prioritization focused on two indicators. Research focused on evidence of how an acuity tool is utilized and how it can benefit other problems associated with the delivery of care. It’s important to find research that explains how an acuity tool can be used in the nursing practice to prioritize care. The acuity tools used in the research, scored patients based on specific categories that were associated to different aspects of patient health and needs. Determining patient acuity based on scores, would be recommended as it’s a simple way for a nurse to know the type of condition the patient’s in and how carefully nursing cares would need to be prioritized.
An acuity assessment tool would be most suitable for med-surg nursing, as nurse’s care for patients with a variety of diagnosis. As each patient’s needs in a med-surg floor are different, evaluating patient acuities would determine which patient condition would require more care. The policy focuses on implementing an acuity tool. To implement an acuity tool, we’re focused on creating a tool by gathering different aspects from acuity tools used in the research. Putting together important aspects from different acuity assessments, will create a tool that can be well utilized by med-surg nurses. A focus with this policy, is to improve overall patient care prioritization and to provide nurses with the ability to have a balance of patient cares. Having the policy demonstrate that if patient cares are prioritized by acuity, nurses are able care for the needs of the patients during any moment and without focusing all of the nurse’s attention on one particular
