These senses evoke emotion which can be demonstrated in words to strengthen an argument or inform a reader. Thus, pathos can be used in various forms of writing to convince people by pulling on their heart strings. From my experience in writing and in real life, using pathos to argue, inform, or convince a individual, typically leads to the individual to becoming open-minded to my points.
