This change shows how Hosseini’s characters can change and overcome their wrong doings, just as society and humans in society can fix there mistakes with a little work and emotion. It may always stay with someone, but the blame can always be fixed. The direct quote shows how actions are not permanent and can be changed into something more than oneself. It can also teach the lesson to make the right choice the first time, rather than have to give back or apologize in the future. On the other hand, the author could have wrote this the other way and have Amir turn the other way again. That would probably have had a greater effect on the plot and conflict between Hassan and Amir. It is very satisfying to see that Amir made the right decision to save Sohrab.
