Othello’s overwhelming thoughts of doubt and betrayal, planted by Iago, cause him to lose sight of his responsibilities, in being a poised and rational leader. Before his corruption, Othello proves to be a respectable and honored war hero, through his sensible and wise guidance. However, once Iago causes Othello to make decisions purely out of jealousy and revenge, Othello relinquishes his responsibilities and moral obligations. In Acts 1 and 2, Othello shows to be an eloquent gentlemen, treating Desdemona with love and respect. However, as Othello’s emotions begin to conflict him increasingly throughout the play, Othello starts acting uncharacteristically: striking her in public,verbally abusing her and murdering her out of jealously.
