The question is, “Which paper towel brand is the most absorbent?” The hypothesis is, “If a dropper drops water equally on a paper towel of each brand until it started to drip, then Bounty brand would contain the most water, in grams. The independent variable is the brands of paper towels. The dependent variable is the grams of water that was contained in the paper towel. The control variable was that every paper towel sheet was cut to be 15.2 centimeters by 28.1 centimeters. The control group was Brawny brand. The experimental group was Bounty, White Cloud, Homestore, Walmart Brand, and Sparkle. First, move one of the brand’s a paper towel sheets to a balance to see what the mass is. Each paper towel brand took the trial three times. Brawny’s first trial absorbed 28 grams,the second trial absorbed 31 grams, and the third trial absorbed 30.3 grams of water. The average was 29.77 grams of water. White Cloud’s first trial absorbed 22.5 grams, the second trial absorbed 22.9 grams and the third trial absorbed 23.6 grams of water. The average was 23 grams of water. Homestore’s first trial absorbed 16.4 grams, the second trial absorbed 18.2 grams, and the third trial absorbed 20.6 grams of water. The average was 18.4 grams of water. Walmart Brand’s first trial absorbed 17.6 grams, the second trial absorbed 16.9 grams, and the third trial absorbed 18.7 grams of water. The average was 17.73 grams of water. Bounty’s first trial absorbed 36.7 grams, the second trial absorbed 39.4 grams, and the third trial absorbed 40.3 grams of water. The average was 38.8 grams of water. Sparkle’s first trial absorbed 16.1 grams, the second trial absorbed 17.3 grams, and the third trial absorbed 17.5 grams of water. The average was 16.97 grams of water. Bounty claims to be the most absorbent paper towel brand in the experiment. This data supports the original hypothesis.
