The Pantheon situated in Rome and Parthenon, situated in Athens are two famous Greek and Roman buildings respectively with great historical architectural style. Both structures have some degree of visual resemblance between them. Although their names seem to be similar, both buildings (structures) have some significant differences that distinguish them from each other depicting diverse cultural styles. One important note is that the architectural design of the Pantheon was influenced by Greek culture. This essay considers how the style and function of each building serves as a typical example of its culture by outlining their similarities and differences respectively.
The Roman Pantheon was built originally as a temple in Rome to celebrate all Roman gods in the year 126 AD. It was built by Publius Aelius Hadrianus using Arch Technology architectural design system. The Greek Parthenon building symbolizes the power and wealth of the Athenians. The building served as a monument to Athena because they believed that the Greek goddess helped them in various ways especially to conquer the Persian Empire during the great Persian Wars. Presently, it is used as a Museum to showcase the rich culture of the Greek People. Unlike the Greek Parthenon, the Roman Pantheon was built to house the gods of the seven planets and was used also to house the tomb of kings and famous painters.
